An unprecedented cyber-attack has compromised 32 entities of the Colombian Government, leaving the information of millions of citizens in suspense. IFX Networks, a multinational that provides technological services to the public and private sectors, was the direct target of the attack. The nature of the hack appears to be ransomware, but surprisingly no ransom has been requested so far. Authorities and experts are working hard to determine the extent of the damage and compromised information. As a result of this attack, the debate has intensified about the need to improve cybersecurity policies and the consideration of creating a Digital Security Agency. This situation has raised concern in the Government, which is now considering establishing more rigorous parameters for entities that contract cloud storage services.
